Let's face it. Motherhood isn't much fun if we're just doing the
chores. The My Body Rocks Project offers an opportunity for you to turn away from
duty to others and focus on your duty to you and your deep yearnings. Are you
worth it?
The My Body Rocks Project takes you on a powerful journey to tell
your story and in the process find your true self, that voice inside you that
knows you rock.
You Rock
The My Body Rocks Project was started by mother, writer, and BOLD founder
Karen Brody.
Her mission is threefold:
1. to get mothers out of their analytical, processing mind and
into their bodies in a safe space where their stories can be witnessed by
others, they can relax, and have fun;
2. to help mothers reclaim their feminine power, that "wise
woman" spirit;
3. to "give back" to the community by raising awareness
on mothering issues and raising money for local organizations who support moms
in knowing their bodies rock.
How Did We Start?
In 2005 Karen Brody, then a mother of two toddlers, wrote a play
on how low-risk women were giving birth in America. She interviewed over
100 women and used eight of these stories in her critically-acclaimed
documentary play, Birth (hailed
"The Vagina Monologues for childbirth" by bestselling women's
health author Dr. Christianne Northrup). In 2006 Karen started used Birth
to spark a global movement called BOLD. BOLD inspires communities to use
theater and storytelling circles to raise awareness and money on behalf of
improving mothers' childbirth choices.
From the BOLD movement, The My Body Rocks Project was born. The
"My Body Rocks" phrase comes from one woman's birthing mantra in
Karen's play. "My Body Rocks" has been embraced by mothers throughout
the world, chanted by thousands of audiences, and printed on endless t-shirts,
mugs, and artwork.
"Why does 'My Body Rocks' resonate with so many mothers
around the globe?," Karen asks. "I believe it's because in our
disconnected, busy world, ironically what most people crave is connection - to
our true selves and community. And when we're more connected to our bodies we
make better decisions. They come from the heart. And this benefits the community."
Karen's My Body Rocks recipe helps mothers slow down, tell their stories and
move into their bodies - ultimately feeding the craving of our soul.
What Do Workshops Offer?
Using writing, movement, and deep relaxation, Karen has designed
workshops, private sessions and retreats to help women who mother (anything - a
child, a project, a relative, an animal) to relax, connect with sisterhood, and
tell your story among witnesses. This "My Body Rocks" process can
help you transform into the person you know you were meant to be.
Who Attends?
The My Body Rocks Project courses are suited for all women who
mother - birth mothers, adoptive mothers, pregnant mothers, grandmothers, and
any women who are "mothering" anything. All you need is an open heart
and willing body.
